When you are told not to put raisins up your nose, it’s hard to think about anything else. Of course the first thing I thought about when I read that quote had to do with human behavior and horses. You don’t think so? First, understand that my goal of riding any horse is to be able to influence the timing and placement of the feet, through the horse’s mind, without causing the horse to feel troubled. Bottom line is - if I can direct the feet, then I can direct the horse. That’s a worthy goal, but it doesn’t always go that way. |

Real friends of parrots should be concerned not just for their own pets, but for parrotkind in general. Sadly, many are extinct – and some are perched precariously on the brink. It’s estimated that 36% of the world’s parrot species are in threatened or near threatened status.
A 2006 psittacine census of Puerto Rican Amazons, themselves the sole survivors of several parrot species once native to that island, put their numbers at 34-40 wild individuals. They were once widespread and abundant. So was .the USA’s own Carolina parakeet - now extinct for nearly two centuries. The Spix’s macaw has not been seen in the wild since 2000. |
